I LOVE the month of April:
Because of the fever! You know what I am talking about. Spring fever. It’s the amazing feeling I get when inhaling that fresh sweet scent after opening the doors and windows to air out the house after a long winter. But then I start sneezing and quickly run around shutting all of them and have to turn on the air purifier. No. That can’t be the reason.
Because it’s mating season! The animals are frisky and even my neutered Bichon has more energy with all the good musky scents in the air. Birds do their twirling dance along with the squirrels. Soon the toads in our backyard will croak for a mate at night, sounding similar to a cow with its head stuck in the fence which is another reason to keep the windows shut. Nope, that’s not it either.
Because the days grow longer and warmer and the flowering trees, shrubs, and sunshine beckon! We usually get a huge snowstorm just when everything blooms, nipping most of it in the bud and this year will be no different. Yep. That can be a bummer.
Because of the Easter holiday! My kids will come home from college and we’ll go to Church, out to brunch, and then dye Easter eggs. At least that is the plan, although I think I have several Paas egg dyeing kits that haven’t been used over the last couple of years. Why did they have to grow up???
Because this is the month that I put it in high gear for tennis season! Bring it on competitors! Just be nice…Now that I think about it, I am not looking forward to the stress level and this is the month that we put away all of the ski gear. So very sad.
Because we start planning our summer vacation! We usually take a family trip to some random location and drive to Wisconsin to visit family. Hopefully, we can go back to the Midwest before the mosquitoes are swarming and the humidity is so heavy, I have to swim across the kitchen to get my first cup of coffee in the morning. I just remembered. My kids have summer internships, so how can we plan any trips?
Because baseball season starts! The games are really fun to watch and I played a lot while growing up. It is a very long season, so I should pace myself this year. Now that I think about it, the season lasts until the freakin’ end of October. Why get so excited about the first couple games?
Why do I love April so much? Oh yah! Because it’s my birthday month! I bet you are not surprised that I am an Aries, a first-born, and dang lucky. I already got my gift card from Sephora in the mail. I love gifts. Gifts are awesome. This is the month I plan to finally cash in all my gift cards from last year. You won’t find me whining on MY birthday. Birthdays are for celebrating and that’s why I love April!
What is your favorite month?
All photos by Susie Lindau. Yes. Even the mating toads. I know….

Happy Birthday Month! Aries totally rock. Hope this month rocks just as much. You know I love a good celebration, so party on, my friend!
Spring fever?
Is that why you’re so hot, Susie?
Hahaha! No. Just smoke and mirrors Hook!
Susie- April is a good one for me, what with baseball making itself known again. But I would say October is my favorite month. I love Halloween, the crisp feel of the air, and of course, the baseball games hold import.
I am a Halloween girl too!
Thanks Cayman
April is officially the end of winter, regardless of the 4 inches of snow that fell last night. the sun is higher in the sky, the ground is warming and the grass is starting to turn green. yay for april
Woohoo! Thanks Louise~
April is the recovery month invented for relief after March Madness.
The recovery involves lots of mating, which is pretty cool. And the weather is b e a u t i f u l here in WV.
I like April.
Hahaha! I wondered about that. Now I know it is the recovery month. Mating is good.
It is beautiful here in Colorado too except I just cleaned the windows and it looks like rain, even though it is not predicted. Did I not write about those dang weather forecasters and how off they are???
Have you seen the picture of the weather rock? It’s a rock hanging from a string outside with a sign:
If rock is wet: rain
If rock is swinging: windy
If rock has shadow: sunny
If rock is white: snowing
If rock is dry: fine
Can’t see rock: fog
If rock is gone: hurricane
I have! I should get one so I can predict the weather too!
What a great post about April. It’s a little different here in the Southern Hemisphere because April tells us we’re well into autumn but so far our April weather has been amazing and it’s been like summer – no complaints about that! Happy Easter and Happy Birthday month!
Thank you so much and happy Easter to you! I hope you have a great weekend!
What? Are you suggesting that my reinvigorated training regimen is a result of the earth’s position in it’s orbit around the sun rather than my increasing virility?
It can’t be true.
I think you can take some responsibility for your virility…I guess.
Hahaha!
Thanks for coming by Jau!
Happy Birthday, Wild Thing… and what is the exact day, so you can be properly celebrated?
Thank you so much Ted! It is the 11th. LOVE Wild Thing by the way… Hahaha!
Happy Birthday Month! Hope you have a great day/week/thirty days!
Thanks Sylvia! I am working on it!
I’d have to go with September because it starts with the mens’ and womens’ US Open tennis finals (I’m a huge couch potato-style tennis fan that would sooner ice climb naked than play the game myself) over Labor Day weekend. The summer heat will have died down so I’ll have fewer bad hair days. Broadway’s fall theater season will begin and the New York Film Festival will get underway at month’s end. In conclusion, September is one of my favorite months to sit like a lump and watch others perform.
That sounds AWESOME! You must live in or near NYC and are taking advantage of that amazing city. I love watching the US Open too and saw it once in NY, but will be watching from my couch this year….
Yep, I live in the Big Apple and love it.
NICE!
I’m also addicted to cramped spaces, snark and soot.
It’s Autumn here so thanks for rubbing it in! Happy birthday – one year younger!
Magsx2 just reminded me of that! The months means so many different things depending on where you live that is for sure!
Thanks JM!
An early birthday wish…
Baseball starts tomorrow in these parts, or rather the Sox start in Detroit. I am not optimistic.
It seems so early with the weather and the snow we got this week!
Thanks Nelle!
Hi,
A very Happy Birthday and I know you are going to have a fun month.
I also love April but for totally different reasons, the weather finally starts to get just that bit cooler here on the other side of the world, and we start to get a break from the heat and tropical storms.
That’s right!~ I forgot about that. You think of April the same way I look at October!
Thanks Mags!
Enjoy celebrating YOU all month!
Thank you!
I hope April “showers” you with good cheer and good words!
Love that! Thanks Millie and I hope you’ll stop by again soon!
Have an awesome birthdee!!
Thanks so much John!
Happy birthday month
I can’t say that I have a favorite month per say, but spring is definitely my favorite season. Summer is too hot and winter is too cold. Fall is nice but it doesn’t have quite the same smells, and it’s the season where everything dies rather than comes alive.
Good point Marcy! I do love the bright colors after a drab winter too!
Thanks so much!
Can you have more than one – ha! November – my birthday month. October – met the man I would marry. June – my wedding anniversary month. Enjoy Your Special Day & Happy April:)
You can have as many favorite months as you want! Those are awesome reasons to love those months.
Thanks Renee!
Rock on and Happy Birthday!! (Loved the lead-up to the final reason!) I’m with ya on April all the way. Oh what’s that you say? Why yes, yes, I am an April baby, too!
(Just barely, though, and a Taurus – April 30th.)
Happy birthday to you Jules!! You have a lot of birthday partying to do in April until its your day!
April rocks!
Thank you~
YES! My birthday is tomorrow ( I was reminded of this, well, today). When I don’t forget the day I was born, I love celebrating in April, too
Woohoo! Start celebrating like a rock star! Happy birthday to you!!
Hilarious! Sounds like you have a lot come up and even more to celebrate. Happy birthday!!
You have to celebrate when it’s your birthday. We owe it to ourselves even if no one is around most of the day. I will make some appointments and cash in those gift cards!!!!
Thanks Audrey!
Reblogged this on The Journey.
You make me smile … a lot. And thanks or reminding me to unload those gift cards.
Seriously. I have a pack of them….Thanks for the reblog Neville!
Happy Birthday Month, Susie! Your exuberance for life and all it has to offer in all its forms is delightful and refreshing! It’s always an adventure visiting you; and I rarely leave here without a huge smile on my face! ~ Julie
Thanks Julie! That is so nice. I always look forward to your smiling avatar and kind comments!!
Happy Birthday month! Celebrate it every single day – because I said so! My word is law this month.
LOL April really is the best month, isn’t it? We get the diamond! It’s our BEST friend. Hehehe. Now go out and have massive amounts of fun girl!
I am very good at doing what I am told…..
It is your birthday month too! Awesome! Thanks Debra!
Happy Birthday! Although I hate April, the temperature starts rising, pollen flies all over and one has to fill in and submit tax forms, due on the 15th over here, UGH! I love the equinox though.
I forgot about taxes….euw! See it really is just about my birthday! Hahaha!
Thanks M!
Steve’s birthday is on Friday so happy day to you.. you aries people..:)
Why do kids grow up?
Why?
HAPPY EASTER..
HUGGGGGGGGG
Happy Easter to you too and wish Steve a happy birthday! We’ll try to get out there sometime this year….
I love that you’re another birthday fan, Susie! The month of April suits you.
Thanks August! I appreciate that!
I believe that life is so fragile and we have to celebrate our milestones. Bring it on Birthday fairy!!!
wouldn’t it be uber-wacky if your parents had named you april because you were born in april?? think of the hijinks you coulda played on so many unsuspecting folks! ha!
Happy birthday!
Seriously! Hahaha! That would have been a blast! I love that name, but was named after my great-grandma Susie.
Thank you so much!
Happy birthday month Susie
Hope it’s awesome!
Thanks Coleen! It is off to an amazing start!
LOL! I love April for all the above reasons too. Except it isn’t my birthday.
Congrats on yours. Have a great month!
ps found you from my twitter stream. and you put a smile on my face.
Hey that is awesome! I always wonder how many come over from Twitter.
Thank you so much!
I wish there was more room in the subscribe area. I would love to ask new readers how they found my blog…
It was through Catherine Johnson’s tweets. She had tweeted your post. Thanks for sharing.
That is so great to know! Thank you!
You are always full of the joys of Spring Susie, wishing you a lovely birthday!
Thanks Catherine! It is next week, but I will start celebrating now. That’s just how this wild rider does it!
Great post Susie! Love the post about April. April here in north Texas is one of the most beautiful we’ve experienced in years. My latest poem, Springtime in Texas is revelry about all that is spring and included lines about frisky fillys and mares taken from a working ranch where I volunteer.
Nice! It is beautiful today too! We aren’t out of the woods for frost until the middle of May. One time I bought a truck load of annuals on Mother’s Day and we got over 6 inches of snow…
Thanks Rich!
I will be celebrating everyday actually
NICE!!! Happy birthday month to you!!
Happy Birthday month to you and the rest of us reborn peeps
Happy birthday! April’s been abnormally warm here and I worry about tornadoes. My favorite month is October: fall temps, baseball playoffs, Halloween, and changing of the leaves.
Thank you!
I know, October rocks too, hence Rocktober!! The leaves out here aren’t as dramatic as the Wisconsin fall color I grew up with.
Be safe my friend Heather! The weather is getting very wild…
I love March and April because I can open the house and enjoy the lovely weather before the sweltering Florida summer begins.
Happy Birthday Month!!
Thanks Katie! I bet the humidity is something else! I have only been to Florida in the spring…It can get really hot and dry here…
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I love April too. I love seeing the colors arrive, and brighter and longer days!
Thanks Ellieann! Luckily the snow storm we just had never really stuck and our trees are still blooming! We can get snow here until the middle of May. Gotta love Colorado~
I will be celebrating next week too! Hahaha!
WooHoo!! Sending you hugs for your birthday! So glad you were born.. and if you lived closer, I’d have baked you a fine cake to celebrate with:) xoxo Smidge
Thank you so much Smidge! I wish you lived closer too! I can just smell that cake…..
Happy faces, winks and smiles…on your Special Day!!!
Thanks so much! I will be celebrating next week….
On a bread baking kick at the moment…gawd only knows why since I have to give it away in order NOT to stuff my face with whole loaf loaded with Tbls. of butter/jam. The point? Makin’ you a loaf of Challah in honour of your B’day next week and giving it away to a friend whose B’day is Saturday. Yea April Birthdays. Enjoy!!
Oh you are April girl spring inside no matter what the season.
Wish i knew the date but will send you a card now….
I love March its a beautiful season..winter packing bags and summer on door.

That is so sweet of you Soma! Such a beautiful rose. You made my day!
I love your metaphor for the months!
I think you should have been named April. You are the perfect advertisement for the month – high energy and lots of surprises! Enjoy it>
Oh wow! Thank you so much! I have always loved that name.
We have really late seasons here, so April can seem like quite the tease. There’s a fresh layer of snow just this morning. Yesterday I walked the dogs in a T-shirt. It’s more snow than T-shirts, though…
I always like the promise of what’s to come in April, though.
It can be a roller coaster of a month! The latest storm brought a lot of moisture which we really needed and we dodged the frost bullet, this time…..
Thanks for stopping by Byronic Man!
