Welcome to the Wild Ride!

If you’re looking for inspiration, travel, writing tips, or entertaining posts about adventures and misadventures in Boulder, Colorado, you’ve come to the right place!

Susie Lindau divides her time between Boulder and Breckenridge — the Rocky Mountains, a stunning background for many adventures and misadventures. At close to eight hundred essays on the Wild Ride, she has won five WordPress editors’ picks and has written many articles for the local newspaper. She has collaborated on an award-winning screenplay and is the host of the Wild Side Podcast. When she’s not on an adventure, she’s writing adventurous psychological suspense. Susie is currently querying her debut. Keep your fingers crossed.

Oversharing and having no shame are a great combination for some pretty wild adventures.  Whether I’m making a scene or being told to THINK BIG inside my head, I blog about my wild life no matter how absurd.

When I’m not writing thrillers, I’m skiing,

looking down whales tail

mountain biking,

biking the boulder reservoir

or hiking in Colorado.

I love exploring and backpacking in the wild outdoors too.

I love writing about the beautiful state of Colorado and should work for the Boulder Chamber of Commerce.

I also enjoy traveling and photography.

My husband, Danny, thinks he’s the butt of my jokes. He’s right, especially when karma kicks mine.

Don’t worry. I laugh at myself too. I have a ridiculous sense of humor and tend to go for it whether I’m heli-skiing in Canada or embracing my badass self after knee surgery.

I graduated with a BS in Art from the University of Wisconsin – Madison but found my true passion for writing. Now I paint scenes with words.

Sometimes I illustrate my posts like this one after NaNoWriMo.

I’ve also been known to take an icy plunge with polar bears and pick up random strangers to ski.

I am a breast cancer survivor — eight years cancer-free! — and wrote humorous Boob Reports to chronicle my ridiculous journey to being cancer-free after double boobectomies. Boobs can be pretty funny. I wrote an open letter to them, and they responded. Someday, The Boob Report will transform from blog to book.

Heck yes, these boobs are fake t-shirt

  6. Susie–it’s been a while since I checked in. Hope you’re well! I think of you…well…when I think of boobs. Sorry! All about the early detection here. I also think of your success as a WordPress Discover Feature. A note of thanks for your old blog post which detailed how to up your chances of being a Discover Feature. A post of mine was one this spring–and now I’d like to submit again. But things have changed at WordPress–no Daily, no Community Pool. And I think you can only pitch a story through Twitter now. I’d love an update from you with latest tips on how to reach a larger audience! You’re definitely doing it right!

  7. My mom…who I care for full time, is quadriplegic – she almost died from a Viral Encephalitis attack in May 1981. Prior to her attack in 1981, she was a full-time skier, water-skier, volleyball player, tennis player, dancer (tap, jazz, ballet) often took the Concorde to Paris for an overnight or for a party of Dad’s close confidant-business friends, full time ‘house-wife’ took care of/brought up three kids, until my sister died 7 months after her ‘attack in may 1981 at age of 16, I was 13 by the time she died – Been caring for mom alone now, since dad died from melanoma – mom too has had breast cancer – she removed one of her boobs – and as she said: “they were useful for when I needed them” – breast cancer survivor now over 20 yrs…and then diagnosed with uterine cancer, but survivor of that since 2003 – so, almost 16 yrs…. she may be 82 years old, and have medical issues – worse now – due to the Viral Encephalitis – after 30 yrs of being this way – yet, she is doing her best to ‘hold on’ – sadly, my older shit brother – stole our ability to ‘care for ourselves’ – and has been doing all he can to ‘be rid of us’ in a permenant way. Welcome to usa…the ‘attitude’ of most. Consider yourself lucky that you had ‘breast cancer’ and had loved ones who care for you or worry for you (I assume you did…) where we come from if we are ‘diagnosed with some potentially fatal disease, they subliminally are thinking to themselves: they aren’t dead yet”? ) Yes – some people actually do ‘exist’ with ‘relatives’ like this, and have now – nearing 20 yrs….and counting. Glad you’re doing so well – remember – there are those who are ‘worse off’ than you….. like, well, ….us!

    1. First of all, thanks stopping by the Wild Ride!

I’m so sorry you’ve faced so much adversity. I hope you are taking care of yourself since you don’t mention anything about your life. You sound like a very special, loving person. Caretakers tend to put everyone else first. I always say, “Take care of yourself first so you can be your best for others.”

People can be super selfish. I have been written off by some acquaintances. Contracting a disease, especially cancer, seems to be viewed as some kind of failure. Everyone wants to know what we did wrong. Then there’s karma. LOL. Like your mom, I’ve shrugged those sentiments off along with some of those people and have moved forward. I don’t have time for negativity. Life is too short!!!

It sounds like your mom is wheelchair bound and requires a lot of help. I love that it she remains mentally strong and focused on the future. There are many things she can still accomplish. I wish you both all the best the world has to offer. I’ll say a prayer for you!!
