Why April?

I LOVE the month of April:

Because of the fever! You know what I am talking about. Spring fever. It’s the amazing feeling I get when inhaling that fresh sweet scent after opening the doors and windows to air out the house after a long winter.  But then I start sneezing and quickly run around shutting all of them and have to turn on the air purifier. No. That can’t be the reason.

Because it’s mating season! The animals are frisky and even my neutered Bichon has more energy with all the good musky scents in the air. Birds do their twirling dance along with the squirrels. Soon the toads in our backyard will croak for a mate at night, sounding similar to a cow with its head stuck in the fence which is another reason to keep the windows shut. Nope, that’s not it either.

Because the days grow longer and warmer and the flowering trees, shrubs, and sunshine beckon! We usually get a huge snowstorm just when everything blooms, nipping most of it in the bud and this year will be no different. Yep. That can be a bummer.

Because of the Easter holiday! My kids will come home from college and we’ll go to Church, out to brunch, and then dye Easter eggs. At least that is the plan, although I think I have several Paas egg dyeing kits that haven’t been used over the last couple of years. Why did they have to grow up???

Because this is the month that I put it in high gear for tennis season! Bring it on competitors! Just be nice…Now that I think about it, I am not looking forward to the stress level and this is the month that we put away all of the ski gear. So very sad.

Because we start planning our summer vacation! We usually take a family trip to some random location and drive to Wisconsin to visit family. Hopefully, we can go back to the Midwest before the mosquitoes are swarming and the humidity is so heavy, I  have to swim across the kitchen to get my first cup of coffee in the morning. I just remembered. My kids have summer internships, so how can we plan any trips?

Because baseball season starts! The games are really fun to watch and I played a lot while growing up. It is a very long season, so I should pace myself this year. Now that I think about it, the season lasts until the freakin’ end of October. Why get so excited about the first couple games?

Why do I love April so much? Oh yah! Because it’s my birthday month! I bet you are not surprised that I am an Aries, a first-born, and dang lucky. I already got my gift card from Sephora in the mail. I love gifts. Gifts are awesome. This is the month I plan to finally cash in all my gift cards from last year. You won’t find me whining on MY birthday. Birthdays are for celebrating and that’s why I love April!

What is your favorite month?

All photos by Susie Lindau. Yes. Even the mating toads. I know….

  1. Happy birthday month 🙂

I can’t say that I have a favorite month per say, but spring is definitely my favorite season. Summer is too hot and winter is too cold. Fall is nice but it doesn’t have quite the same smells, and it’s the season where everything dies rather than comes alive.

  2. Hi,
A very Happy Birthday and I know you are going to have a fun month. 🙂
I also love April but for totally different reasons, the weather finally starts to get just that bit cooler here on the other side of the world, and we start to get a break from the heat and tropical storms. 😀

  3. I’d have to go with September because it starts with the mens’ and womens’ US Open tennis finals (I’m a huge couch potato-style tennis fan that would sooner ice climb naked than play the game myself) over Labor Day weekend. The summer heat will have died down so I’ll have fewer bad hair days. Broadway’s fall theater season will begin and the New York Film Festival will get underway at month’s end. In conclusion, September is one of my favorite months to sit like a lump and watch others perform.

    1. That sounds AWESOME! You must live in or near NYC and are taking advantage of that amazing city. I love watching the US Open too and saw it once in NY, but will be watching from my couch this year….

  4. What? Are you suggesting that my reinvigorated training regimen is a result of the earth’s position in it’s orbit around the sun rather than my increasing virility?

    It can’t be true.

  5. What a great post about April. It’s a little different here in the Southern Hemisphere because April tells us we’re well into autumn but so far our April weather has been amazing and it’s been like summer – no complaints about that! Happy Easter and Happy Birthday month!

  6. April is the recovery month invented for relief after March Madness.

The recovery involves lots of mating, which is pretty cool. And the weather is b e a u t i f u l here in WV.

    I like April.

    1. Hahaha! I wondered about that. Now I know it is the recovery month. Mating is good.
It is beautiful here in Colorado too except I just cleaned the windows and it looks like rain, even though it is not predicted. Did I not write about those dang weather forecasters and how off they are??? 🙂

      1. Have you seen the picture of the weather rock? It’s a rock hanging from a string outside with a sign:

        If rock is wet: rain
        If rock is swinging: windy
        If rock has shadow: sunny
        If rock is white: snowing
        If rock is dry: fine
        Can’t see rock: fog
        If rock is gone: hurricane

  8. Susie- April is a good one for me, what with baseball making itself known again. But I would say October is my favorite month. I love Halloween, the crisp feel of the air, and of course, the baseball games hold import.
