SEOs, Patsy Ramsey and Meteors

There are many ways to receive news. You can tune into 24-hour news stations, listen to the radio, read your local newspaper, check out internet sites like the Huffington Post, or hashtags that trend on Twitter.

I’ve found another news indicator. SEOs. These are the search engine terms or words that link someone’s search on the internet to your blog or website. After blogging for almost 2 ½ years, I am just finding out the importance of SEOs. WordPress posted a series about them. Although much of their information flew over my head like a meteor shower, I understand that choosing key words in a post will bring readers to your blog.

Wild ride seos

Two weeks ago, I noticed a rise in hits on one of my articles, How Patsy Ramsey Ruined My Life. I usually get a few a week and didn’t think too much about it, until it jumped in views. I knew something was up.

The Reporters Committee for the Freedom of the Press demanded the release of the sealed indictment of the Ramseys. Bam! People are Googling Patsy Ramsey again and are clicking to my post. I’m sure they are not disappointed since she really did ruin my life.

Another SEO caught my attention. Meteor. What’s a meteor post doing on the Wild Ride? The near miss of Asteroid 2012 DA14 coincided with one of my Use Me and Abuse Me Days so I had some fun with a photo. That day, I got 600 views in an hour when an unpredicted meteor crashed in Russia. Whenever asteroids or meteors, (they still can’t decide on which is the correct term), are in the news, readers click to my blog. I’m not sure they’re overwhelmed by all the information on my post, but I bet they LOVE my joyriding stunt.

How do I get random searchers to click over and keep them reading once they arrive? I need to improve on my search engine words. I want them to feel ecstatic when they find the Wild Ride. Okay. I would settle for satisfied. I’ve written many posts about breast cancer, linked them to Wikipedia,, and have included tags. I have yet to have one websurfer that came to my post after Googling breast cancer. Instead, the Boob Report attracts a lot of horny people looking for boob photos. I’m sure they find everything they’re searching for when they come here. *Insert sarcastic eye roll here*

It’s never too late to slip in a few choice words or tags. I added the tag “inspiring breast cancer story,” to a couple of Boob Reports, to see if it helps draw the right readers. There’s no way I’ll add that phrase to my post. It would sound like I’m blogging from a pink throne.  Pink’s not my color.

Make sure that your website is verified so it can be searched for through Google, Bing and Pinterest. I verified mine today and my SEO hits went up. It is located in Available Tools on your dashboard.

I looked up the most expensive words optimized by Google Adwords. Guess what’s #1? Boobs? No….not even Justin Bieber. It’s insurance! Boring.

I checked out another site called Top Internet Keywords for 11/11/13 on Soovle. In this alphabetized list, Justin Bieber came in second behind JC Penney. Maybe you should consider writing about your trip to the mall instead of the Biebs latest antics next time. Kim Kardashian was in fourth place behind Kmart, Kayak and Kohls. After another exhibition of talent at the MTV EMA’s, Miley Cyrus has crept back up into fifth place behind Mapquest, maps, Minecraft, and MSN.

Since I doubt Susie Lindau’s Wild Ride will ever make the keyword list, I will continue to pay attention to what attracts websurfers. And the next time I see a sharp rise in “meteor” hits, I’ll put on a pith helmet before stepping outdoors.

What are some of your silly SEOs?

I am trying an experiment. Check out my tags.

  1. thanks for the words, i went to a SEO site, search maximization, but look at it this way, if you focus on quality you’ll get there, your tips on maximisation the search and getting found is something i’m so bad at, i think there is a biz opp in this, but when did creatives get the time to be organised, when they decided not to be creative anymore, happy days,

  2. I wonder how you can talk about boobs without getting creeps then how funny. I once found a great site to do with Google about keywords and you could type in a word and see how many people used it, but I can’t remember what it was now. I might go looking for it right now :0)

  3. Susie, thanks for all the stats tho’ this stuff makes my head hurt. I just looked at a search term on my blog from yesterday and it was this:
“monty python balls said the king.” JC Penneys, Justin Bieber and some others may be top search words but there’s not much I have to say about any of them.

You should seen what was coming with that boob thing (smile) and now meteors…there’s always some wild things going on over here. 😀

    1. I knew I’d get some horny dudes by mentioning boobs but the trade off to make women less fearful by being humorous and less clinical is worth it.
You’re right it’s always a little wild around here!
      Thanks Brigitte!

  4. It’s funny, I was just looking at mine today. I laughed when I saw “Adam Levine endorsements” which landed on my page because of a photo I took of him at a concert and then edited so he’s holding my book. LOL

    1. I Love it! They are so funny and random. I am still thinking about how to incorporate better words and yet there’s no way I’m going to obsess about it. It seems like a game in which I am a beginner!

  5. Very interesting posts. I get a whole lot about boobs, considering my moniker is Bumpyboobs. Though I’ll have to take a second look at those words. I’ve been ignoring them for quite some time.

    1. It is interesting to see what brings random readers to our posts. After all the work I put into some of them, I want them to be seen by the right people. There is a lot to learn!
      Thanks for stopping by!

    1. I am reworking my categories and plan to count how many posts I have about writing and may add it. I have tons of tags. I’ve been choosing appropriate tags to be seen in the reader, but I am going to see how using choice words ncreases SEOs.

  6. Oh, this is too funny and quite informative! I can’t believe boobs and ball cupping don’t rate high!! Who knew? I’ll have to do some experimenting myself now that I have verified my site thanks to you – although it took me two hours to figure out! LOL. 🙂

    1. Everything is such a learning process for me too! I did get one SEO for the ball cupping post but considering I lost 10 followers since posting, I’m not sure it was worth it! So ridiculous! I thought it was funny! Maybe they thought I misspelled November!!!! Movember…

  7. SEO always confuses me a bit. Sometimes I’m completely baffled by the search terms that people use to reach my blog. “Union rat” was a recent fave. I noticed that there are a lot of unknown search terms logged lately because apparently Google has been encrypting these lately.

Thanks for the tip about verifying my site!

    1. I bet their a lot more boob surfers coming to my blog if they’re encrypted!
This was in my own words so bloggers could attempt to understand it and it took a whole to write! I had to do a lot of research!

  8. I’ll have to check out my SEOs now. I do know that a very old post about vacuuming up my kids’ toys is to this day the single most viewed post on my blog. Lots of vac mishaps out there, apparently.

  9. Have no idea how to check. I jut know every week I get another follower. I’ll probably pick up some more as I finally got my IP and phone company to show me how to get pictures into my blog. It starts tomorrow. We’ll see;.

    1. There you go! All you have to do is Add Media when you’re writing your post in the dashboard. Just upload from your computer’s pictures. (You need to store your photos on your computer in order to use them.)

      1. Ah, the challenge of it all. The “kids” say they don’t worry about not understanding stuff – they just punch buttons and see what happens. Sounds like you are having way too much fun – cool. (oh it’s snow? Freeze warning just north of us In Houston…dogs all asleep in front of fireplace – yes, we have a fireplace…you can always turn the AC down. Guess we’ll have to turn on the heater shortly.) Cold weather is a great time to explore and poke around new stuff. Will watch for news

        1. Cool is right! Is snow coming my way? I’ve been up in the tower polishing the last pages of my book.
I try not to freak out, but every once in a while I press the RED button and BAM!!!!

  10. That was too funny I guess I need to put more boobs and meteors in my stories. But I bet it was the pic of you in the meteor that kept people reading…’cause it’s awesome.

  11. Well that’s all very interesting. I’m not sure what any of it means, but I’m going to spend a little more time with my dashboard features and see if I can learn something.

I know I still get a few hits a day on my post with the words “red neck” in the title.

And I think I verified my site, but again, not really sure what the heck I’m doing. Usually I just try stuff and when it works I consider myself lucky. Again, going to visit the dashboard.

    1. Excellent! I thought I had verified mine, but when I checked it said, Unverified. I don’t know if I’ve see a huge jump in views, but it may take a while to adjust my Wild Ride! Word searches ebb and flow.
      Have fun!

  12. I know, I know, I’m supposed to care about SEO. I can’t seem to find the inclination — marketing is just not my sport. But I do love how some of your tags bring in the views. I have no idea if I’m verified or not. I suppose I’ll check. I’ll probably get lost, so if no one hears from me for a while, I’m in my dashboard…

  13. Hi Susie. Every single day I have at least one person who finds my website by searching Dr. Evil. I think I referred to my alter ego as Dr. Evil in a couple of posts, but who knew he was so popular? Maybe I should feature a regular Dr. Evil post 🙂

    1. I think you should! That is so funny! I get occasional Grumpy Cat surfers! I think they are just copying the photo.
Great to see you Suzanne! I hope you are doing well. Glad to see you participated in that run with your sisters. What a fabulous team!

    1. Just yesterday! I had talked to a nurse last Friday who said, “Absolutely not,” so we didn’t go over the weekend. I have been restricted from falling so I’ll be skiing bluies this season, but I’ll be out there! Let’s go skiing!
