This bike hike to Bridal Falls includes a photo essay with altitude. It captures Colorado’s fall color and majestic beauty.
Danny and I fell in love at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival twenty-seven years ago. We hadn’t been back. It takes seven hours to drive to this very special Colorado locale. It was worth every hour.
We biked from town into the box canyon. We planned to bike and then hike to the top of Bridal Veil Falls. I stopped every few hundred yards to take photographs.
We rode to the parking lot at the bottom of the mountain.
Biking on the road would get steep.
Run off from the mine turned the water a luminescent green. Do you see the vegetation on the right side of the valley? It was re-established with plantings after mining.
We searched for a path to take us to the bottom of the falls. We could 4-wheel it, but we would have missed the adventure!
Can you see the waterfall in the distance? We hiked above it.
We found a trail and bushwhacked while searching for orange or blue trail markers.
We continued to hike up the canyon.
The mountains rose up on all sides.
A dramatic look through the canyon back toward town.
Our goal. Danny suggested shimmying on the cable, Bear Grylls-style. Next time!
We were getting closer and yet we still had a trek ahead of us.
Our trail ran into the road. We started counting switchbacks. We would hike a few more hairpin turns before arriving at the top of the falls.
The obligatory Colorado VW van photo.
Above the falls!
We stuck to the road on the way back down. It was ever so much faster.
We’ve been on an amazing journey and it all started here in Telluride.
We found our bikes at the bottom of the valley.
Our twenty-seventh wedding anniversary is October 10th! I hope it doesn’t take another twenty-seven years to come back. Telluride is an amazing place.
Come for the Ride. Stay for adventure, I always say.

I wanna go there! GORGEOUS
And happy anniversary!
You would love it! It is so charming and dramatic. We went during mud season, so only the locals hung out. Perfect timing!
Thanks so much, Darla!
Gorgeous photos of glorious scenery. Happy Anniversary!
Thanks so much, VB! I’m so glad you stopped by!
I am so jealous! What amazing countryside to take a bike ride or hike. These pictures are unreal.
Thanks Phil! I live in an amazing state!
Wow is an understatement! This is on my list of places to visit in the fall! Happy Anniversary!
Thanks Galen! Great to “see” you!
It is pretty spectacular no matter what the weather is up to. We’re getting close to peak here in Boulder. I love this time of year!
Absolutely gorgeous! The thrill of being that close to such an incredible view would make a hiker out of me, I think. I don’t seriously hike, but I am a bit of an explorer. I think if I had a hiking partner I’d be a little more adventurous. The interest is there. I hope you and Danny have many more years of adventuring together. Happy Anniversary!
Thanks so much! I bet you would hike in Colorado too. It’s the only way to see some of its extraordinary views. Truthfully, I had laryngitis, but there was no way I was going to nap. I paid for it the following week, but it was worth it! A four hour bike and hike.
Wow, gorgeous! I’m envious of all your energy.
Thanks Peg! It was a blast! The four hour hike round trip was amazing. I was pretty sick with laryngitis, but you know how I am.
Telluride is such a joy to visit! gorgeous scenery, so many festivals, and an awesome, laid-back town. you’ve captured some wonderful colors here!
Thanks Stephanie! It is an amazing place. So pristine and the town really hasn’t changed much since we were there in 1987. We loved it!
Beautiful photos, beautiful lives!
Thanks so much Denise! It’s been a Wild Ride! Telluride is a crazy beautiful place.
