A Mind-Blowing Experience!

Breck 1

Last week, my son, Kelly, called after he received a phone message relaying the results of his back x-rays. He broke his L-5 and pelvis snowboarding six years ago and he had experienced a flare-up.The doctor prescribed anti-inflammatories and recommended not lifting anything over twenty-five pounds. The radiologist said they found a deformity and he should make a follow-up appointment.

What could that mean? Between my parents’ health and my own, I had a lot on my mind. My son’s health compounded my worry. I prayed for a sign of hope.

On Sunday, I drove my husband, Danny, to ski at Breckenridge Ski Resort. On our way, four adults and several children stood at the bus stop. Unlike the weekend before when I shuttled skiers and boarders to the mountain, I knew the bus was probably on schedule. I decided to offer anyway.

I pulled over and asked, “Would anyone like a ride to the mountain?”

Two ladies nodded. They threw their skis in back of my car and jumped inside. They were from New York City. One mentioned she was a massage therapist who had relocated to Boulder. As I pulled into the Peak 9 parking lot, I asked, “You said you were a massage therapist?”

“Yes. I specialize in managing pain without drugs.”

I explained my son’s condition.

“It could be several different things,” she said as her bright blue eyes met mine. “If everyone had their body CAT-scanned, radiologists would find a bone abnormality somewhere. My guess is his L-5 isn’t even causing the pain.”

I relaxed for the first time all weekend. “That is such a relief. Thank you.” She handed me her card. I slipped it inside my purse and told her my son would be in touch.

As I drove out of the lot I said to Danny, “How amazing was that?”

“I would never have picked them up. You have a very unique relationship with the universe.”

I drove into the Peak 7 drop off and parked. Danny pulled his skis out of the back of the car while I fished the business card from my purse.

“Oh, my God. You won’t believe this,” I said while reading the card.

“What?”

“The massage therapist’s name was Hope.” My mind was officially blown.Eyes wide open

Life is extraordinary, if we pay attention.

My son and I had doctor appointments today. Kelly was told not to worry about the deformity and I was told my recovery was within normal range. Hope was right!

Do you believe in signs? Have you ever been blown away?

    1. My son and I had appointments this afternoon and we’re both okay! YES! I’m super excited. Hope was right! He was told not to worry about it and I was told that although I shouldn’t start running until mid-April or so, I can ski when the pain goes away. I am super stoked!
Even though I know Hope has a practice in Boulder, she was like an angel on Sunday. My prayer was answered.

  1. My thoughts regarding this fine blog:
    1. I think every massage therapist should be named Patty.
    2. Order a Pedi-cab for warm weather.
    3. If Hope is right, then angels inhabit Breckenridge.

    1. Hey Henry! Thanks for listing your thoughts. I’ll be sure to mention the massage therapy idea to my sister, Patty. 🙂
A pedi-cab would be a workout up there! I do think there’s another energy level we’re not even aware of. Angels rock!

      1. Happy dancing. Appreciate the update. Been sending sunny healing thoughts ( a real feat as we’ve almost forgotten what sun looks like.). People can say what they want, but you spontaneously deciding to share some lemonade and rides to ski even though you couldn’t was good karma and those grateful people spun some happy energy your way. Happy Wild!

  3. Sounds like it was an encounter that was meant to be. It’s true–if everyone had a body scan, we’d find all sorts of things we don’t know what to do with and which probably don’t mean anything. But I hope everything turns out well for your son. Best of luck to you all.

    1. I had no idea! We both went to the doctor today and Hope was right. Kelly is fine and so am I! Woohoo! I am so relieved. It was a chance encounter which really took a lot of the worry away. The doctors confirming Hope’s prognosis is frosting on the cake.
Now it will be smooooth sailing! Thanks Carrie!

  4. Wow, Susie! I totally agree with your husband in that you have very unique relationship with the universe. That’s so amazing how the encounter took place. We don’t often pay attention and I’ve always admired your ability to notice and to live in the moment. 🙂 🙂 Hope your son feels better pronto!

    1. Thanks so much, Maria! Things like this happen to me all the time. I just put out the vibes and they come tumbling back to me. Crazy!!!
My son and I both had doctor appointments today. I updated the post! He was told the deformity was nothing to worry about, just like Hope said and I was told that I’m improving and my recovery is in normal range. Whew! I thought there was something very wrong like an allergy to the knee parts. I was very direct in my questions. I will start running in mid-to-late April, but will be able to ski much sooner! I will stay out of the bumps… low impact greens and blues. YES!!!!!

  5. I certainly believe in signs, especially when they smack me in the head to really get my attention. The biggest mind blow for me was a dream I had about having two girls and naming them Sheridan and Shelby. I do not have kids, but I am now Mrs. Sheridan. BLEW MY MIND!!! Happy Hump Day 🙂

  6. I agree with Kelly… you really do have a very unique relationship with the universe. A spiritual medium once told me to pay attention to all the little signs (I get them in bulk!) as they are our spirit guides leading us through life. Just like with that reappearing necklace, pay attention and enjoy the ride. 🙂

  7. I DO believe in miracles, synchronicity, and signs. The Universe sends us answers all the time — how great that you’re tuned in enough to notice, from the instinct to pick them up, to realizing who she is and what she could do.

    1. I agree and think it is the coolest thing when it happens.
It was such a crazy experience! It was a beautiful day and there was no reason to ask them if they needed a ride. As we drove away, the bus drove up the mountain. It was synchronicity to be sure!

You many not have seen my update. Hope was right! Kelly and I had doctor appointments yesterday afternoon and we’re both fine. YAY! Before I met Hope, I had worried with both needed surgery.
I had the best night sleep ever last night. Things are lookin’ up!

  8. Oooooo – I’m hearing that do do — do do music. In a creepy cool kind of way. Like when you’re waiting to ride the Tower of Terror ride at Disney World and you’re watching an episode of the Twilight Zone. Do do – do do. Do do – do do.

I hope everything turns out okay for your son.

  9. My brother sent me a funny email this morning about a sign. The situation didn’t pan out quite as well as he anticipated, but hearing from him about this was a nice way to start what turned into an insanely busy day at The Grind. I’m glad that your sign seems to have worked out nicely.

    1. I slept like a baby last night! It was such a huge relief. Hope gave me hope and she was right! I hope everything works out for your brother. One thing I learned, when we pray for something, we don’t always get it when we want it or how we imagine. Tell him to keep paying attention. Another opportunity may arise.

    1. Thanks Mark! I haven’t been this pumped up for a very long time. I slept so well last night! It’s amazing how life works. All you have to do is put “it” out there!

      1. I do live by it. And, when things get tough, I try very hard to just say, “Ok, God. It’s going to work out best in the end. You take it so I don’t worry.” Then, I am getting much much better at just letting it go; still concerned, not so worried.

  10. Glad everything is looking better. Hope was right about the imaging tests. If you look closely enough at the body or any other aspect of the human condition, you can find flaws and abnormalities – but it doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a problem.

    Like

    1. I did not know that. You would think the radiologist wouldn’t have left a message with such an alarmist tone. Maybe he/she has something to learn about the abnormalities of the human body too!
Thanks 1Point! I slept like a baby last night, without the thumb-sucking or diaper-wetting.
