Hey Wild Riders! Are you ready to be challenged?
I’m back to my wild adventures and thought we could have a little fun this summer. Many of you already exercise, but some of you are only well-intentioned. I know. I’ve been there too. Here’s how you can become fit while receiving exposure for your blog or website.
The challenge.
Commit to exercising in some way 2-3 times a week. Make at least ONE of those an OUTDOOR ADVENTURE. Take a walk or run through your city. Go on a bike ride, hike, swim or play tennis. So the weather is nasty or it’s winter where you live. Dress for the weather. Go skiing or become a mall walker, anything to get you moving. I’m sure you can come up with all kinds of exciting adventures!
This is a 90 day challenge. By September, we should all have hard bodies! That might be an unrealistic expectation, but I know we’ll be in better shape. We may feel and look better too!
Want blog exposure?
If you are down for the challenge, take pictures and write about one of your outdoor adventures. Include your fitness goals if you’d like. Give me a heads up and guest post your adventure here on the Wild Ride. After I post it, you can reblog it!
After I feature you, continue to write about your Wild Rider Fitness Challenge experiences. Post them on your blog and link it up here so others can join in the fun.
Don’t blog? Join in the fun anyway!
Need more incentive? Exercise turns back the clock.
I read a Vogue magazine article originally written for Livestrong Magazine. They conducted a study where half the group led sedentary lives for three months. The other half worked out aerobically for thirty minutes 2-3 times a week. They measured their collagen thickness before and after. Besides getting into terrific shape, the group who exercised stimulated a growth hormone and turned back the clock by building collagen. Cool or what?
Sitting could be killing you.
Read this Huffington Post article about how Sitting is the New Smoking: Ways a Sedentary Lifestyle is Killing You.
If you would like to participate and have an outdoor adventure you would like to share, email me at susielindau@gmail.com with “Wild Rider Fitness Challenge” in the subject line.
Meet up on Twitter.
Use the hashtag #WRFChallenge. It could inspire others to get out of the chair or writing cave!
Here are a couple of examples of Wild Riding adventures-
I’m looking forward to reading your adventures. They could take us to wonderful locations around the world.
This could be the WILDEST summer ever!
Are you ready to take the challenge?
Gawd I had better stop typing..:)

When I was rehabbing my knee, they wanted me to stand up and walk once an hour! It was hard when in the middle of a writing project. Now I’m more aware of how long I’ve been sitting. I hope you’ll take the challenge, Linda. Walking is great exercise!

Great thought Susie! I see what inactivity does to people (me) after 50 and beyond… I’m in! I am going to try to ride me bike to work 2-3x per week and add an extra day or two running. Yes, a hard(er)body is the goal!

Until I have my cardioversion and get my heart beating properly again, my exercise is walking from one chair to another. Even when it is beating right, my exercise mainly consists of walking for 20 minutes or so a day. Doubt if I’ll change that at my age.

That’s great exercise, David. Walking is the best. I hope your heart normalizes soon!

You know I’ve already signed up for a fitness program, you clever gal, you! I don’t have plans to do any of it outside (especially with summer coming on), but I’ve already told Al!ve that I intend to work out three days a week (crossing my fingers!) and I want to join a class…I just can’t decide between Pound, kickboxing and Zumba!
My first post (with the before and WAY before) photos arrives at 12:17a your time tomorrow morning. Look at what I have to fix…if you dare! (Cue evil laughter. 😉 )

That’s great, Daya!
Kick-boxing is a blast. I found Zumba challenging since there were so many steps to memorize. I’ve never heard of Pound. Have fun!

Pound uses weighted drumsticks…it sounds like air drumming (instead of air guitar), but with actual sticks. Even if I join and stick with it ’til the end of the summer session, I’ll use Alive’s sticks…a pair of ripstix from the official site is $18.99 and Amazon doesn’t carry them (so nothing cheaper!)

I’m in! But I’ll have to reread that posting and linking part. Got a little confused on that. Right now I’m off to exercise my taste buds on some coffee and a scone. But I did get my walk in today already. Cheers!

I figure with all this fitness challenge business going on, you’re going to need people on the sidelines cheering you on, that can be me 🙂 (Jumping up and down and cheering is exercise right?).
Good luck to everyone taking part anyway!

New York is a great city for walking, Susie. That and riding my spin bike four-five times a week is how I avoid being complete flab on feet. Over the weekend, the weather was pretty nice so I walked north on West End Avenue for a meeting I had 27 blocks away from my sanctum sanctorum. I always enjoy looking at the architecture when I take a stroll. This time, I was smitten with a turn of the (19th into 20th) century-style townhouse that was decorated with barking dog heads and a smiling blonde woman (she was colorfully painted). It was very theatrical. I had never seen anything quite like that on a townhouse before. Had I ridden the subway, I would have completely missed that discovery. Trash wrappers under hard plastic seats are a lot less inspiring. I’m sure that you will succeed at your fitness challenge.

I hope to be back in the latter half of the month, or at least by June 30th. I’m taking a short vacation for a few days. Right now, I’m just slowly starting to read and comment. I have my regular exercise routine. For me, the challenge is to cut back on eating crap. I’ve been scarfing too many burgers with Milton.

I’m an exercise addict, Susie. I love running, cycling, yoga, Pilates. I can definitely do this challenge. 😉 I’ve even gotten Mathair into taking walks around the greenway we have here. The Smokey Mountains are a beautiful view to take in while we sweat and get in shape.

Great idea. My 12 year old daughter and I have agreed to start our own exercise regimen this summer, once school is out. Maybe I’ll be posting about that. I miss exercising regularly. Although, my fingers are in wonderful shape from blogging and writing. 😉

I’m down with that. Admittedly, I haven’t exercised since Saturday, thanks to a cranky hamstring. But I’ll be back at it this weekend, fer sure.

I’m going to take a shot at it. I sit at my computer all day for work and then write at my computer (or watch tv) to relax. I desperately need to get myself moving again. Tough because we’re entering the 90 degree months, and even my treadmill is in a room with no A/C. But if “sitting is the new smoking” I’m a dead woman. So worth a shot, right?

Great idea Susie! It’s so nice that you live in an area where there are so many exciting places to experience and incorporate into your excercise routine. It’s a win win! For me, I am limited as to what I can do ever since I was diagnosed with an auto- immune disorder umpteen years ago. But, I don’t let that stop me. And though I live in the Valley of the Sun where the temperature will rise to a cool 110 degrees by next week, I walk and lift weights. Gotta keep moving. Even if I’m forced to live like a bug and only come out in the dark of night! Lol! Wild riders unite! ((Hugs)) 😎

I’m not sure where I fit into the challenge but I’ve been busting my a– in my home gym (barn) for several months, 5-6 days a week, strength training and HIIT and DIET, DIET, DIET! I’ve dropped close to 15 lbs and have my kids into the frenzy and they love it! It’s been fun and thinking I’ll eventually write about the whole thing on BRC.

Getting enough exercise is not a problem for me, but — especially in winter, days in a row going from house to car to gym and other places, i.e. not outside, is. Thanks for this nudge. We are in France right now where people look very fit. They walk everywhere, fast, even in high heels. Hmmm. Might be a future post here. In any event, thanks for taking space in your blog to promote this important topic.

You’ll probably do a ton of walking in France. They have subways, but spaced far apart. Nothing like London. Definitely post something and enjoy taking the challenge with us! If you want to guest post, email me!
