Wild Rider Fitness Challenge – A Guest Post by Maggie C

I would like you to meet Maggie C from, What Rhymes with Stanza? She has taken the 90 day Wild Rider Fitness Challenge. Maggie has written a wonderful outdoor photo essay about the pet-ometer and how it keeps her going. I can see where it is an excellent motivator. I think you’ll really enjoy this. It may motivate you too.

Take it away Maggie C!

Thank you, Susie, for hosting the Wild Rider Fitness Challenge!

I’ve actually been taking daily walks for about a year now, but the Challenge is motivating me to “step up” my game. I have difficulty sticking with any kind of healthy endeavor, it seems, so having kept at it this long is pretty amazing (or perhaps I’m just easily amazed).

The secret to maintaining my exercise regimen this past year has been my Pet-ometer. He doesn’t measure how many steps I’ve taken in a day, but he lets me know when it’s time to walk,

and — if I don’t get my rear off the couch soon enough — he lets me know it’s REALLY time for a walk.2lets go

Once we are out the door, he keeps the walk from getting boring by employing his “interval straying” technique (a form of “leash resistance training”). One of his favorite motivational sayings is, “The best things in life are just two inches beyond the reach of the leash. So keep reaching!” Or so it would seem.3explore

Between sets of heavy lifting (aka lugging around a full doggy doo bag), he allows a rest and recovery period where we stop and smell the roses hydrangeas.4stop

Sometimes in our training we come to a fork in the road, and he helps me decide which way to go.5fork

After the workout, it’s time for a cool down period. If your model of the Pet-ometer is white, the best place to do this will be in a pile of dirt.6rest

Pet-ometers aren’t cheap, but they come with many additional benefits (for example, no more worries about sweat dripping off your chin; he just tidies it right up). 7love

If you stick to the Pet-ometer exercise regimen, you’ll end up looking and feeling great! And so will your pet(-ometer).

  1. My husband uses our pet-ometer first thing int he morning and wears her out before I even get out of bed. LOL So I have to stick to my Zumba 3-4 times a week. Does it count as outside, Susie, if I dance on my back porch?

  2. The Pet-O-Meter! Duuuuude I had completely forgotten about it since my dog passed away a couple of years ago. She was my wake-up call on weekends and kept my going after I came home from work. Definitely a great workout buddy. What a great post, and contribution to the Wild Rider Fitness Challenge! High five to you!

    1. Glad you enjoyed the post. I was a confirmed cat person until this furry guy came into my life. The only time my cats wanted me off the couch was when their food or water dish was empty. Not much of a cardio workout with that.

    1. Thanks for swinging by, Diana!
It’s going well, thanks. There will be a few more guest post to come. Being a part of this group is motivating me to get out of my own writing cave. You should join us by exercising 2 or more times a week.
      I loved Maggie’s post too!

  3. Since we are in a traveling phase we are trying to resist the urge to add a dog to the family. Thanks a lot Susie and Maggie for dangling an irresistible, hydrangea-smelling temptation. Oh, and a petometer would get me outside more? No! No dog!

Zweet post. Will have to visit Maggie’s blog. Laughing is a form of exercise, right?

    1. I would have to agree. My daughter flips her FitBit to her bra. I would think that would be an interesting way to wear your Pet-ometer. However, it could keep you warm on winter days. 🙂

    1. I’m glad you liked the post! He’s very photogenic, except on very sunny days. Then his white coat is so bright, it’s like verging on snow blindness.

  5. What a humorous post, Maggie! I love the fork photo! 🙂 Good for you for taking on Susie’s challenge. I often think of getting a dog for many reasons but definitely one being that it would force me to get out there. Hmmmm. 🙂

    1. Go for it! He’s the first dog I’ve ever owned, and I didn’t think I could commit to daily walks. But there’s really no saying no. Either you walk the dog, or you spend the rest of the day peeling him off the ceiling until his energy runs down.

  6. Reblogged this on What Rhymes with Stanza? and commented:
Susie Lindau was kind enough to run a post I wrote for her Wild Rider Fitness Challenge (#WRFC) a couple of months ago, but since I promised a moratorium on dog posts, I held off on reblogging until today. Thanks, Susie!
