Escape to the Stunning Chinese Garden in Vancouver!

It will be months before I work in my gardens in Colorado. Decimated by deck construction, tough winters, and dry summer months, mine are looking a little more than gnarly. While yearning to escape winter, I found my photos of the stunning Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. We flew to that amazing city on our way to Whistler’s Wanderlust Yoga Festival in 2016.

Sun Chinese Garden Entry

Struck by the integration of architecture and gardens, I was swept away by one zen space after another.

Gorgeous pine over the Chinese Garden pond Vancouver.

A pagoda at the top of a hill overlooks the grounds. Dr. Sun built a place in the garden for meditation. Several of those unusual rocks graced the space.

This stunning Chinese gem is located in the middle of Vancouver.

My husband, Danny, and our daughter, Courtney, gazed at the pond before we left the peaceful oasis and entered the bustling city.

The gardens inspired me to carve out a space of my own for contemplation and meditation.

I held that position just long enough for Courtney to snap the photo. Ha!

    • Winters in Vancouver don’t qualify for ‘bitter’ … a bit ‘nippy’ perhaps, maybe even ‘there’s a chill in the air’ 😀 … snow falls but most years it doesn’t linger. It’s part of the Pacific temperate rainforest that runs from northern California through to the southern bits of coastal Alaska. 🙂

  1. Oooh I love the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen garden! It really is a lovely place to relax isn’t it!?

You know you can hire out the whole garden for events? My husbands work hired it for their work summer bbq. 😀

  2. I love that garden — you really got some great photos of it! When I lived in Seattle I visited Vancouver several times and fell so i n love that, during our traveling years, my mother and I went several times for a week. So many wonderful gardens to visit and that one is definitely a must see.

  3. I love Chinese gardens. This is particularly stunning and the photo with the towering Vancouver high-rises reflected in the pool of water achieve the best a garden can offer–peace and tranquility in the middle of a bustling atmosphere. I do love gardening, but no, I have never been to Vancouver! I must at some point. I’ve been saying that for a while. 🙂

  4. One of my brothers-in-arms, Peter C, lived in Vancouver for years and met many a celebrity.
(Vancouver is one-half of Hollywood North, after all, next to Toronto, of course.)
I’ve never been, but you’ve awakened my interest, Susie!

  5. Visited Vancouver and the chinese garden last year. What a fabulous city, so much going on and such friendly people. Really want to get back there one day.
