When I learned the Denver Aquarium hosted Yoga with the Sharks on Saturdays, I had to go! I missed Shark Week. This unusual class combined an adventure fix with a zen experience. I had to share my photos and videos of my latest adventure.
I’ve always been a water girl (something to do with my Aries fire sign, I’m sure.) I still have an aquarium at home.
The most fun I’ve had with sharks, up until last Saturday, was watching Jaws, poolside.
I figured yoga would be held in a packed auditorium-like space. Nope. My daughter, Courtney, and I arrived early and found a dark intimate room where an enormous aquarium dominated the room. We spread our yoga mats right up to the glass. Mere inches separated us from the blood-thirsty killers.
Good thing we arrived early. Late-comers ended up in the hall. The fabulous instructor led us through traditional yoga poses while the fish, sharks, and a couple of sea turtles swam in front of us.
There have been several studies linking low blood pressure with watching fish in an aquarium. No wonder mine is so low. Being surrounded by all sizes of them, I wonder how much everyone’s BP dropped during class. Yoga alone can be very relaxing.
After a quick hour, we shared our Namastes and rolled up our mats.
Then, Courtney and I took a quick tour of the Aquarium.
The crowded school of fish reminded me of the limited space for our yoga mats.
The Denver Aquarium welcomes volunteers. I found one in the shark tank!
This would be more my speed.
We had a blast! I would definitely go back. If you’re in the Denver Area, check the Denver Aquarium calendar.
Are you into yoga? Would like to have sharks in the backdrop or would it be counterproductive to your zen experience?
