One year when baking cookies for the holidays, I decided to put a twist on a boring old gingerbread recipe. Instead of making gingerbread men for holiday revelers in need of a sugar rush, I created ballerinas which could be playful as well. This enjoyable and edible holiday DIY became an entertaining adventure in baking!
The Nutcracker was a huge part of our holiday tradition back when my daughter, Courtney, performed with the Boulder Ballet. In high school, she refocused her attention on dance team which led to performing with the band during CU football game halftime shows.
With all this experience, I knew Courtney was up to the task.
Enlisting her help and her Nutcracker Suite carousel, the cookies became stars in the opening number. She was the puppet master while I cracked up in the background and recorded it for you.
I hope this brought a smile to your face. I laughed so hard when I saw the video again, I had to share it. Let us know what you think!
If want to keep smiling a little longer, click to the Blessed Projects. They may inspire you to write one as well. Nothing works better to beat the holiday blues than an exercise in gratitude.

That was the sweetest Nutcracker “Sweet” I’ve ever seen. Well done. I loved how the fingers (legs) kept time to the music, especially in the little running steps towards the end. Very cute!

I just looked in my Reader and no, it did not show up there. But when I had my Reader open and went to the notifications icon (the bell in the top right corner) and clicked on the title of your post in the comments list, then your post popped up in my Reader. Too weird!

Let’s all give Courtney’s hands a hand. Tremendous screen performance. And exquisitely timed with the Oscars just around the corner! And I sense a second Oscar for set design.

Well that is indeed an interesting variation of the Nutcracker. I love gingerbread but I can’t say as I’ve ever seen ballet inspired gingerbread cookies. Very clever of you.
Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas!!

We will be baking and setting out delightful Christmas cookies tomorrow evening along with a glass of cold milk and a shot of rum for Santa. I had taken a walk and posted our sons letter of Christmas wishes this afternoon off to the North Pole. When he came down last year to see all of his Christmas presents. He was repeatedly thanking his mom and dad for his gifts. He is a true dear. Peace and doves Susie.
