A Snow Day Social Distancing Adventure!

So, I was ready to post a funny story about my love for a sport played outdoors. Then I woke up this morning. I looked out the window and POW! The few inches predicted in Boulder, Colorado turned into 12 and it’s supposed to snow all day. I went out in search of a snow day social distancing adventure!

Snowy porch in Colorado under 12 inches

We must have been getting an inch an hour.

12 inches of snow

A snowy entry

Time for my first adventure. I trudged through the yard and discovered 15 inches of snow!

It was hard to make my way through the yard.

Cupid is carrying a heavy load today!

I turned back and went another way after trying to get through the narrow walkway.

Deep powder in the yard

After that adventure, I needed another. Let’s go skiing!

Skiing to the Niwot trail

Niwot Loop is one house away from us. I’ve never cross-country skied in the neighborhood. Today was the day for a Nordic twist!

We live on a hill. I had imagined it to be too great of a challenge to cross-country ski downhill with such flimsy support. Not today. The snow was heavy and it kept on snowing.

There seemed to be less snow on the bottom of the hill, but it sure was pretty!

Snowy bridge in Niwot

We only saw two people in the two hours we were outdoors skiing.

A great day for social distancing!

The sun is shining today. It’s 9 degrees and temperatures will reach the 50’s! That’s Colorado weather for you.

Are there any storms coming your way? Have you been getting any fresh air? What have you been doing to keep boredom at bay?

Pin for later!

  1. What a surprise! Spring has been cool here but nothing like that! I loved your photos and video. I think I prefer snowshoes because I fall over on cross country skies. chuckle. My family in saskatchewan still has snow also and minus 20 C. I enjoyed your smiles out there, I hope there was hot chocolate at home.

    1. I forgot the hot chocolate! Maybe today.
This is typical for Colorado although many of its residents seem to forget. LOL! We had a blast. It’s super cold this morning but gorgeous. It’s supposed to warm up by fifty degrees! I feel another blog post coming on. Thanks so much!

    1. Today, the sun is shining and the snow is glistening! I’ll have to post more photos over the weekend. Thanks so much, John!! We are supposed to hit 51° even though it was in the single digits this morning. There’s so much snow, it will be around for a while. ❄️⛄️

    1. Thanks, Renee! Sounds like a splendid day in Florida. Believe it or not, it was 9° here at 8 o’clock and it supposed to hit 51° by 3 o’clock! ❄️⛄️
      Have a great weekend!

  2. Are you kidding me?!!! Is this NOW? Or are you fooling us with photos from last winter? If it’s real and now, then as pretty as it is, I feel sorry for you. But it will melt one day (just before winter sets in, I guess.) I wish you lots of sunshine to melt the snow away. Happy spring????

    1. We LOVE it! We probably got 20 inches of snow yesterday. Skiing was a blast! Today, it’s gorgeous, sunny, and the snow is glistening. I’ll have to search for another adventure before the snow melts!
      Thanks, Anneli! ⛄️⛷❄️

  3. Wow–love it! Growing up in OH, we used to cross country ski in the winter on the golf course down the road. Never golfed there though! Super great exercise. Good for you! I’ve been walking around our little village once a day, but not doing enough exercise, really. You’ve inspired me to up my game today!

    1. Yes! Enjoy the outdoors safely, if you can. It feels good to get the blood moving. I’ve always wanted to ski on a golf course but I don’t think they allow that here. The trail is close to home. We really don’t need to go anywhere else. Enjoy your Friday! Thank you, Rebecca!😎

    1. I hope you get the chance some day, Art! Kenya is on my bucket list. 🐘 🐅 🦓 Ita melting pretty fast today but I took some pictures this morning. The sun is intense since we are a mile-high in Boulder!

      1. It was beautifully done; now I yearn for snow. It’s raining here in Kenya but am good coz I got awesome friends beyond the borders.

  4. It’s gorgeous! I love untouched snow. It’s so calming and peaceful. I miss snow. We rarely get snow here in Mississippi and when we do it’s only about an inch or so. Barely enough to even realize it’s snowed (compared to Northern California where I hailed from).

We’ve had our share of weird wacky spring weather, but ours usually involves terrible thunder storms and tornadoes. Not pretty, calming, or fun.

    Thanks for sharing your adventure!

I enjoyed stretching out and moving my body. It’s amazing how much snow is still on the ground! It was pretty warm yesterday.

I’ve been watching the weather in the south. Very scary!!

I’m glad to hear you are doing well. It was a fun adventure. Snow is still on the ground but I would imagine the trail is pretty muddy. I’ll have to go and take a look! I love Colorado and the snow but I miss California. I’m overdue for a trip! 😎🏄‍♀️🌊

      1. It’s been good here bouts of awesome Cali sunshine and no 19 degree weather but random cloudy and rainy days during the week. Good for our fire season though. But either way no beach trips for us … so we’ll have to hold off on that for a bit 🙂 glad you’re doing well!

  7. What a fantastic day to cross country ski! When I was a kid we got a few big snows and skied around the neighborhood. I miss it. Here in WA our weather is so much milder. In fact, we’re about to get our second mow in this spring. The biggest bummer has been the cancelation of our annual Tulip Festival that usually runs the month of April. The flowers are doing their thing, but everything is closed to the public. It’s a big economic loss for our poor farm county.

  8. Way to look on the bright side, Pollyanna. It snowed 1 inch here this weekend and made the trek down our long driveway to get the mail a nail-biting terror that had me grumbling until it melted. An hour later.
Hope all is good with you and yours.

    1. OMG!!! I have thought about you so often, Peg! Great to see you. We’re doing great! Are you blogging again?

Yep, I thrive on snow while you worry about taking a dive in it. We’re supposed to hit the 70’s all week so I might pull out my paddle board. 🙂

      1. Nothing is safe. We have really good staff here and they clean and wipe all day long but, like everywhere else there are people who live here that are that very special kind of stupid. We got notification yesterday that someone in the building has the virus and is being quarantined in there own place. It’s just a matter of time.

        1. Oh, no!!! Special kind of stupid. Love that term. They are everywhere! I ran into a neighbor on the trail who defended not wearing a mask by saying we don’t need them outside. Really?? I suppose our spit burns up on contact. Nope. It travels farther in the breeze!
