Was It a Sign or a Threat?

I’m one of those who looks for signs from the Universe but tends to ignore the threatening ones. I see the positive in most situations and expect a positive outcome. That’s how I’m wired. I could never be a novel writer without being an optimist, right?

With fires raging for two weeks, thick smoke seeped through the windows and doors. I ran an enormous air purifier. If I went outside, I would come back in with a sore throat. With two of the largest Colorado fires under control and several contained in California, our skies in Boulder finally cleared. I took a bike ride, grateful for fresh air on the trail and stopped at Coot Lake for a swig of water.

While returning home, I noticed a large bird in the sky. At first, I thought it was an eagle. I always think of my dad, who died in 2015, when I see them.

My heart soared.

It must be a sign.

I stopped to take a picture.

It swooped in a large circle. Then to my surprise, it headed right toward me!

As it flew right over my head, I realized my mistake.

It was a turkey vulture!

At least it didn’t poop on my head.

One day I looked up in the sky,

And a bird flew by and pooped in my eye.

It’s a dang good thing,

Cows don’t fly.

Any thoughts on signs, birds, or cows pooping from the sky?
