Crested Butte Mountain and Gourmet Eats in Photos!

The last time we visited Crested Butte Mountain, there was an engagement in the family. After a few months and a couple of snowstorms, our family headed back to ski and snowboard.

Last year, if you remember, I experienced a harrowing moment clinging to a bush. LOL. This year the snow was decent after the leanest year in memory, but the food — Wow!

Here are a few highlights:

Bonez Mexican Restaurant.

We had to go back to this Crested Butte fixture. Bonez Mexican Restaurant has a Dia Del Mortos vibe, from the well-placed skulls and tchotchkes to the trinkets tucked into the wall. Ask for the guacamole. Avocados come ready to smash with an enormous mortar and a pestle. So good.

Can you find the skeleton?

Nicky’s Mini Donuts

We also indulged in apres-ski with a box of Nicky’s Mini Donuts. Yum! Ski hard, eat harder. Wait. That’s not a thing, or is it?

Sunflower CB

On our last night in CB, we enjoyed a gourmet feast, farm to table, at Sunflower. I loved the intimate and rustic atmosphere and the flavorful dishes. Since they have limited seating, make a reservation in advance.

Once again, the views didn’t disappoint. We had a blast on the mountain.

There’s nothing quite like spring skiing. The sun shines brighter, the air is warmer, and the snow softens from cubular icepack. No. Cubular is not a word, but my knees begged to differ — the snow froze overnight into unyielding chunk in cubular formations.

Our family ski trips are always a blast. I wonder where we’ll go next year?

A final photo from last fall because I’m so serious.

Are you ready for summer? Any April snow coming your way? Do you ever take family trips?

We’re heading out on a road trip tomorrow. More adventures to come!

  1. That is a beautiful part of the state, spent a lovely day there on one of our visits. I would make a longer comment but I suddenly have to run out for some donuts. I wonder why? Hmmm…

    1. It’s always fantastic to get together with family. For being a small place, it’s surprising packed with things to do!

How is your screenwriting and filmmaking going, Erik?

      Great to “see” you!

  2. Looks like you guys had a BLAST!!! We have had a warm winter here in FL. White sand here vs. white snow – ha! The last family trip we took was in 2014 to Ireland. I am not sure if there will be another in the near future (the parents are getting into their late-70’s/early 80’s). It helps to live in FL and family can escape to here. Happy Adventuring – Enjoy – Have FUN 🙂

    1. Me too! The donuts were as good as they looked. We snuck the ski trip in before they closed and had a lot of fun! A few resorts are still open, including Breck, but I’m not sure I’ll ski again. I’ve turned my attention to road trips, biking, and thrashing the garden back into shape. 😎
      Thanks, Phil!

  3. Hey Susie!

Long time since we last chatted. Hope you are well.

Noticed that you had a good time at Bonez Mexican restaurant. Dia de los Muertos is a fascinating celebration of life through remembrance of death.

In all honesty, November is one of my favorite times of year.

The autumn leaves to me are like God’s natural made fireworks. The celebration of life, through the ending of life.

The story of All Souls’ Day is a great example of this through death to life belief common to all of humanity.

What a universal experience, celebration of life through the reflection on death.

    Fascinating.

Always great to know more about a foreign culture, no?

    Enjoy your weekend!

    Type with you soon,

    Jeff from LFFP
